Grant writing covers a diverse range of support services with varying content and level of intensity in grant proposal preparation. As a service, grant writing appeared in the first Finnish universities about ten years ago. However, only recently grant writing has attracted wider interest and is now piloted by both universities and universities of applied sciences. This workshop consists of two short presentations to initialize a discussion on the shared experiences and ideas on grant writing and the grant writing services offered by Finnish universities and universities of applied science. The first presentation discusses the nature of grant writing tasks based on a survey among experts in research funding services in Finnish universities. The second presentation discusses the development of grant writing services based on interviews among experts in research funding services in Finnish universities of applied sciences.
